Before

This project in Floyds Knobs was a complete removal and replacement of the roof structure to enhance the appearance of the home and resolve chronic leak issues. As seen in the Before photos, multiple additions had been constructed on the rear of the home over the years, resulting in an overall poor roof design with a low pitch unsuitable for typical shingles. The roof had multiple leaks in addition to being aesthetically awkward.

Our goal was to remove only the parts of the existing roof structure necessary to facilitate the addition of the new structural members in an effort to minimize damage to the interior drywall ceiling. As seen in the Progress photos, the roof was “stick built” with dimensional lumber, being built in sections with large tarps placed on any open sections to keep the interior of the home dry in the event of inclement weather.

A review of the After photos shows the home with a more modern hip roof with pleasing lines and a 30 year architectural shingle. The photo of the rear elevation shows the rear vaulted “Florida” room with a fantastic view of New Albany and Louisville. A loft space was constructed in the roof system adjacent to the Florida room. The owner is currently completing the finish work to the loft and Florida room areas.
