The owners of this executive home in Sellersburg were interested in enhancing/renovating the existing deck as well as adding outdoor space as part of the Master Suite. The scope of the project included construction of a screened & covered porch, deck addition, update of the current deck, addition of a door to the Master Suite and reutilizing the existing windows in new locations.
The screen porch was built to include a vaulted ceiling with a rustic lodge look (note stained wood paneling and beams). The screen system was added using the Screen Tight brand low maintenance screen track and covers. The screened porch and deck addition were constructed using clear span beams to eliminate intermediate support posts, allowing the client to construct a parking space below in the future. The existing deck/staircase received fresh planking and handrail. Handrail in all areas was constructed using pressure treated lumber and Deckorators brand classic black balusters. The existing twin window unit in the Master Suite (window in far left of before pictures) was removed and a French door was installed. The twin windows were removed and separated, then reinstalled in the side of the home to flank the client’s bed in the Master Suite. Materials for the entire project were carefully selected to closely match the existing materials on the home and to suit the client’s preference (see the new brick work around the reinstalled windows – it is virtually impossible to see that they were added after the initial construction of the home).
This project accomplishes the goal of an enhanced Master Suite with more natural light and direct access to the screened porch as well as expanded exterior entertaining space/update of the existing deck. Review of the panoramic photograph (below) shows that the deck provides an excellent view of the wooded area behind this client’s walk out lot. Overall, a very well designed and executed addition to this home.
