November Project of the Month

This complete kitchen renovation in Southern Indiana made a stunning change to this home. The original plan was modified to enlarge the kitchen, add a vaulted ceiling, add a walk-in pantry and to open the area between the kitchen and sunroom.

original floor planUpon review of the original floor plan (right), you can see that a third bathroom was eliminated to add a second area of cabinets and a walk-in pantry. Removal of the load bearing masonry wall was accomplished by insertion of an 18”x3.5” LVL beam which enabled a nearly 18’ clear span with no intermediate support. The new vaulted ceiling originating at the wall behind the sink on one side and the LVL beam on the other side give the space an even more open and larger feel. The two slopes of the vault apex and ascend to the walls creating the new plant shelf.

new floor planThe new floor plan (left) provides additional cabinet space with an island and natural gas cook top. A second area of cabinets features a double wall oven, microwave shelf and second sink. The dishwasher was moved to permit the installation of a “lazy susan”. The former pocket door to access the bathroom was reused as the entrance to the walk-in pantry. Forty-two inch wall cabinets were added to offer even more storage.

Upon review of the photos (below), you will note the use of Kraftmaid cabinetry in Natural Hickory, a stainless steel appliance package, granite countertops, a glass tile backsplash, pendant lighting and recessed lighting throughout the project. Together these elements the modern, updated look the clients wanted. In addition, the utility of the space for food preparation and storage is greatly enhanced. Our Blog
